Just a quick update on where we are and what's going on in our "neck of the woods." Mike and I left Tucson last week on Tuesday morning about 10ish. We can make the drive to our house in the Four Corners in one day by car but in the RV we like to do it in two. The route we take is up I-17 through Phoenix (don't like the bypass) to Flagstaff then catch Hwy 89 North to Tuba City then Hwy 160 east to Cortez, CO and home.
Mike had found two RV parks to accommodate us in the Trailer Life book, one on the south side of Flagstaff in Munds Park and the other one on the north side of Flagstaff just as you turn onto 89. I opted for the north side of Flag just so the drive the next day would be nothing but high desert, like we have at home.
Before we got to the RV park we stopped for gas at a Shell station at Camp Verde, AZ. That's when we noticed the oil spots all over the Honda! The oil cap was off and oil had been sprayed all over the back of the RV and the tow car. Mike replaced the cap and wiped the car down while I pumped fuel.
Unfortunately, I had neglected to let the credit card company (Bank of America) know we were traveling so our fuel purchase was denied. I spent 30 minutes on the phone with a BoA rep. to let them know every state and province we would be visiting for the next four months! When we left the Shell station Mike called our other credit card company (Chase) and let them know our itinerary for the summer. I guess we should be happy they are looking out for us even if it is annoying.
The RV park on the north of Flag is called Greer's Pine Shadow and backs up to the Coconino Nat'l. Forest. It was an easy in and easy out, they had a pull through long enough so we didn't have to disconnect the car. Which, by the way, was covered in oil again! Rats! The gauges on the dash all registered normal so I wasn't too concerned about the oil spray. We had just put the coach in the shop before we left for an oil change and complete service. Oh well, it's just a big metal box you throw money at!
We arrived in Dolores, CO on Wednesday afternoon and parked at our friends house in town. Our house outside of Dolores has been rented to a new doctor in town, our guest house is rented to a friend and our house in Cortez is rented to ranger at Mesa Verde Nat'l. Park. We're kind of "homeless" which is why we are taking the summer to travel.
Since arriving in Dolores we have been catching up with friends and celebrating birthdays. Mike's was Saturday, the 21st, and a friend in Cortez had us over for a celebration at her place. We have several friends who have birthdays around Mike's.
I know I said "quick update" but once I got started I couldn't stop. I hope everyone has a great summer and returns safely to Tucson or at least gets away from Tucson for a while. We should be back near the end of August or first of September.
